Founded in 1978 and headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, Highwoods Properties (NYSE: HIW) is a fully integrated, self-administered real estate investment trust ("REIT") that provides leasing, management, development, construction and other customer-related services for its properties and for third parties. At June 30, 2007, the Company owned or had an interest in 386 in-service office, industrial and retail properties encompassing approximately 34.1 million square feet and owned 693 acres of development land. The Company's properties and development land are located in Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. The Company is currently developing $492 million of office and industrial properties in 11 markets and, since January 2005, has delivered $290 million of new development. In 2006, Highwoods generated a 50.6% return for its shareholders. Funds from Operations ("FFO") for 2006, one important indicator of the performance of an equity REIT, was $2.37 per diluted share compared to FFO of $2.11 per diluted share reported in 2005, a 12% increase.
